The player's vitals act as a key component to the mechanics of Stranded Deep. When trying to survive in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, one must be mindful of their condition. How hungry or how thirsty the player is becomes crucial to living life on a deserted island. Injuries or illnesses could also prove detrimental to the player if they are not careful.

Watch[]

The Survival watch is Stranded Deep’s unique way of displaying the player's useful information without breaking out of the game's immersion. The player is able to view the watch by holding down the 'watch' key (default 'F'). The watch lets the player know of the current time of day, the date, the current temperature and how many days they have survived overall. When using the watch, the players can change between watch modes to see more detailed information about their current state

When one of the vitals of the player is running low, the watch will display a notification at the bottom of the screen.

The Modes[]

Switching watch modes will toggle the displayed data. The player can switch modes by clicking the 'use' key (default 'LMB'):

Mode 1[]

This screen displays the player's health, hunger, thirst and amount of sunlight. Once a meter is depleted, the player will receive a respective negative effect:

  • Health

The player's health is what keeps them alive on the island. Health is represented by the heart icon. Identifying problems with one's health is the key to survival. Taking damage will result in loss of health; a fully depleted health meter will result in death.

One should be careful to acknowledge their health. The player's arms should be checked regularly to identify any health issues. Most player effects will also have an impact on health over time.

Health can be regenerated by keeping both the hunger and thirst bars more than 80%. Sleeping will also regenerate health but decrease hunger and thirst.

When the player is at 1 bar of health, a heartbeat will begin playing and intense music will play. It will play again after a while if the player is still low on health.

  • Hunger

The player's level of hunger is represented by the ham shank icon. To regain calories, the player must consume any food items available; fish, coconuts and crabs, for example, can be found in abundance around the area. It is not advisable to eat raw food, as they will cause the survivor to become poisoned or ill.

Once the hunger meter is fully depleted, players will begin to starve. Other player effects, such as broken bones and poisoning, can also have a negative impact on hunger. Sleeping will also cause the player to lose some of their food points.

  • Thirst

The player's level of thirst is represented by the droplet icon. To re-hydrate, the player must drink any available fluids, such as distilled water, coconut milk or eat fruits like quwawa or kura.

Once the thirst meter is fully depleted, players will start to become dehydrated. Sleeping will also cause the player to lose fluids.

Diarrhoea, which can be caused by eating too much coconuts or drinking their water, will cause the player to rapidly lose fluid - watch what you eat!

Vomiting will also cause the player to lose fluids. Avoid eating rotten food or raw meat.

  • Sunlight

The player’s level of sunlight is represented by the letters SPF. To not get sunstroke, which can be caused once the sunlight meter is fully depleted. This will double the rate at which the player gets dehydrated. To prevent this, you must either swim underwater or stay in a shade.

Mode 2[]

The second watch mode displays the skill levels of the player. Detailed information about each skill can be found below in the Skills section.

Mode 3[]

The third watch mode will display the current status effects of the player.

The negative effects are poisoning, broken bones, bleeding, starvation, sunstroke, diarrhoea and dehydration.

The positive effects are healthy, breath boost, sunblock, splint and shark Repellent.

Mode 4[]

The fourth watch mode will display various statistics, including days survived, items crafted, creatures killed, islands explored, and ships scavenged.

Skills[]

Skills are another part of the game mechanics in Stranded Deep. The player has five of them: Hunting, Cooking, Harvesting, Physical and Craftsmanship. These skills will greatly aid the player throughout the whole game:

  • Hunting

Hunting is a skill that allows the player to deal more damage. The only way to level up hunting is by killing any living creatures - aquatic, land or airborne. This makes some weapons like speargun and refined spear really powerful at maximum levels.

  • Cooking

Cooking is a skill that allows the player to replenish more hunger out of any food items. It can only be leveled up by cooking food; keep in mind that your cooking level rises only when you are near the food that is being cooked.

  • Harvesting

Harvesting is a skill that affects how quickly the player harvests resources with tools. Harvesting experience can be gained from harvesting any existing resource with a tool.

  • Physical

Physical is a skill that increases the player's stamina and breath-hold time. It can be leveled up by swimming, building structures that need a hammer, etc.

  • Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship is a skill that allows the player to craft more items and build structures. Experience can be gained through crafting anything. Some crafting recipes are locked behind higher craftsmanship levels, meaning this is a crucial skill for most effective survival.|
